Born in Cuttack in 1963, Dr. Biswajit Mohanty is a Chartered Accountant, lawyer, and a leading wildlife and environmental conservationist. A graduate of Ravenshaw University (1983), he joined M/s B. Mohanty & Co. as a partner in 1993. He holds a Ph.D. in Wildlife Poaching from North Odisha University (2013).
For over three decades, Dr. Mohanty has been actively engaged in wildlife protection through campaigns, research, and legal interventions. He has filed several impactful PILs and conducted applied research on elephant conflict mitigation. His invention of the T-shaped concrete pillar has helped prevent elephant deaths from open wells. He currently focuses on tackling wildlife trafficking.
Dr. Mohanty has held key positions, including Member of the National Board for Wildlife (two terms), Governing Body Member of the Wildlife Institute of India, and Board Member of Transparency International India. He was selected for the US Government’s IVLP in 2002 on “Global Environment Issues.”
Presently, he is Chairman of Greenpeace South Asia, Honorary Secretary of the Wildlife Society of Orissa, and State Convenor of INTACH, Odisha. A practicing advocate at the Orissa High Court, he authored “Chasing His Father’s Dreams” (2017), and has received multiple national and international honors for his conservation work.
