Saumak Podder is the recipient of the Shyamji Krishna Varma Research Fellowship (2025), awarded by the Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Mumbai. He holds an M.A. in Islamic History and Culture and a Ph.D. in South and Southeast Asian Studies from the University of Calcutta. His doctoral research was supported by the Study and Travel Grant (2023) from the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), Ministry of Education, Government of India.
He has served as Research Assistant to Professor Dr. Amitava Chatterjee, Department of History, Kazi Nazrul University, Asansol, for the ICHR-sponsored project “Initiative of the House of Tagore’s in the Physical Culture Movement of Bengal.” His academic development also includes an online certificate course on Islamic Economics, jointly organized by the International Institute of Islamic Thought (East and Southeast Asia Office) and the International Islamic University Malaysia, as well as a certificate course on Travel and Tourism Industry Management under RUSA Component 10 (Entrepreneurship and Career Hub), University of Kalyani.
Beyond research, Saumak Podder has edited over 30 books and is a General Member of the Royal Historical Society, London. His work explores Islamic history, cultural exchanges, and the intellectual heritage of Bengal.
